Matrix Litter Pupdate 02/11/14

Some new pics and personality updates to report:

Neo:  Neo is probably the most active puppy of the bunch, and his coordination is better than everyone else's.  In fact, we don't remember such a coordinated puppy at this age in any of our previous litters.  He hops in and out of the litterboxes, goes for little sprints to get to toys, and generally gets around easily.  His coloring is really pretty - a soft fawn with his daddy's blue sheen, topped off by his steely blue mask, and flashy white markings.  He's the most aware of the world going on outside of the whelping pen - interacting with the pack through the wire, and talking to us about how he's ready to get out and explore the big world.  He's spunky, flashy, and alert...but so far he hasn't been able to bend any spoons.

Morpheus:  Morpheus is also pretty active and very precocious.  He seems to be the first at everything.  He was the first to try to food;  the first to use the litterboxes (and remains the most reliable in this area); the first to stand up on hind legs and peer over the edge of the whelping pool.  He also seemed to be able to see in the distance before the other pups, immediately recognizing us and wagging his little tail in greeting.  He's also very interactive with his littermates, as well as with us anytime we're in the pen with them.  He likes to wrestle and play and generally follows the humans all over the place.  Though the camera doesn't show it, his coloring is also really unique - he's a slightly lighter shade of fawn than his brother Neo, and doesn't have a mask.  His wide white blaze is going to be very striking when he grows up.  His coloring could almost be called platinum, it's so different from anything we've seen before.

Trinity:  Trinity reminds us a lot of Neo and Morpheus.  She's curious and social, likes to play with the other puppies and with her toys.  She's got a great appetite, as well!  She swings her little front paws around and taps us on the feet and ankles when she wants attention.

Mouse:  Mouse is our toy boy.  He loves, loves, loves toys.  He carries the toys into the small kennel in the whelping pen, wrestles with them, chases them, and just generally has a big time with any toy he's offered.  He's less interactive with his littermates at this point, and tends to be more on the independent side.  He does get in the middle of human snuggles with a waggly tail though!  Again, the camera lies a bit as to Mouse's coloring.  He's a slightly darker shade of red than brothers Neo & Morpheus, and also a bit redder than his daddy Johnson at this time as well - but he's got the same rich blue sheen, only the tiniest hint of a mask remaining (it will probably continue to fade), and really cool highlights on his cheeks - a lighter fawn that makes his name fit perfectly!

Apoc:  Apoc and Mouse are a lot alike.  Right now, Apoc sleeps a lot and is also pretty independent when it comes to play with his littermates.  He is just starting to really recognize us and come for snuggles and kisses.  He does like the toys, and he is a big eater - he really likes his puppy food!  He and Trinity are so similar in markings, they continue to be hard to tell apart!  Their only real difference is that the outside toe on his back right foot is white, and hers is blue.  But as they mature, they're starting to have different expressions that make them easier to spot.

It's important to remember that these personality quirks we've talked about here are just the beginning.  We've learned that it's typical for each pup to go through quite a few changes in temperament over the next few weeks, but these are just some early notes.

Morpheus wins the prize for silly faces for the camera today...here he is, just finishing up taking a drink like the big dogs.  Love that pink tongue!
