Pupdate #1 03/10/13

Some more shots from the last few days:

Alfredo - he's really a snuggler...loves people and just wiggles all over when he sees us.

Rigatoni - really likes to be a couch dare-devil.

Alfredo

Penne - poised and thinking of making a leap.  Luckily, she climbed back down and rolled around on the couch instead.

Tiramisu giving aunt Spicy some puppy kisses.

Pesto...truckin' along.  This is one big, sweet boy!

Penne - reminds us a lot of her momma, Bella.  She likes to just watch the world and take it all in.

Pesto

Ziti - another sweetheart...going to look and act just like momma Bella.

Penne & Ziti napping together.

Miss Lupini...playing tug-o-war with the camera strap....while Ken was snapping the pic.
Think she's tired of the paparazzi?

The "War Pigs" update

Soooo...while you might not know it to look at me (Jen), I am a fan of the band Black Sabbath, and particularly a fan of their song, "War Pigs."  Yes, I know...guilty pleasure.

On Wednesday during my commute with 20 dogs in my car (14 pups and 6 adults - it's like a whippet clown car), the song came on the classic rock station.  My inner teenager required that I crank up the volume to 11 on the dial, and belt out the lyrics along with Ozzy Osbourne - both Ozzy and I doing our best impression of the voice of the evil Emperor from the Star Wars movies.

I expected the pups to start yarping and fussing.   Yet - apparently they are also Sabbath fans.  To my surprise, instead of complaining, all 14 tilted  their little noses to air and burst into melodic howling, right in key with the air-raid sirens in the song.

Luckily, Ken counters my headbanger influence by exposing them to classical, jazz, flamenco, and a whole host of other musical selections...

Rigatoni introduces himself to "Uncle Buck" the cat.

Pupdate #1 03/09/13

We're bundled up watching the snow outside and the active puppies inside.  This week, both litters were granted 'living room access' privileges... you can see how well that went over in the photos.

First to climb up on the couch - Biscotti!  Followed immediately by Rigatoni & Mystic.  Now most of them can scramble right up - it's the getting down that is troublesome!  We have some dare-devils who already are  walking along the back & arms of the couch precariously.

They also got to run around unimpeded at Jen's training studio for the first time...the open training room floor afforded them enough space to sprint for the first time.

For the first day, they couldn't cover the entire floor area in a dead run before tiring out.  But within just a day, they had built the strength and speed to go ripping across the training room...running headlong into things in true whippet fashion.  They are just like the adult whippets - they have incredible speed...and no brakes!

We'd like to congratulate Voodoo and JuJu for finding their personalities this week (those personalities must have been under the refrigerator with the dust bunnies the whole time).

Litterbox training is going really well, with at least a 50% success/reliability rate (believe me - this is a very welcome event with 14 little puppies).

Moms Bella and Lizzie are still nursing occasionally, but for the most part, the pups are eating their puppy mash mixed with canned food most of the time.  They do love to corner their moms for a nursing session, though!

All of the adult females have begun to step up their aunt duties with lots of play, teaching, and gentle scolding of the pups.  The pups are learning quickly how to be good pack members!

Aunts Polliwog and Penelope, taking a moment of refuge on the couch.

Lychee Berry wondering where all these puppies came from!

Penne...

...and her skunk toy.

Alfredo has decided Tiramisu tastes way better than dog food.

 Lupini...fearless hunter!

Rigatoni & a pair of brindle feet....all we need are the Ruby Slippers....

Scootie Biscotti!

Alfredo & a bit of Presto!  Alfredo was elusive last week but was the star of the photoshoot this afternoon.

Pesto, Biscotti, Mystic, Lupini playing Yatzee...Rigatoni is watching from afar.

 Presto! shaking out his bedding.

Curious Penne & Tiramisu peeking into the atrium.

Lupini going for Rigatoni's jugular.

Momma Lizzie in a moment of quiet.

Mystic & Penne

Lupini - another star of today's group of photos.

Lupini Bean

 Ziti

Risotto & the footstool.
We promise your pup will have mastered the art of chewing
furniture by the time they get to you. ;-)

This cat-scratching post has survived (nearly) six litters of puppies.
It provides hours of chewing & tugging time.

JuJu thinks chewing on this dog bed is just as fun.

Alfredo & Lupini sharing a moment of sibling love....

Whippet Pile!

Voodoo and the Flappy...still a favorite toy.
